Seasons

Seasons! Seasons! Seasons!

The Bible tells us that to everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven (Ecclesiastes 3:1). When you read the rest of the chapter, you'll see it holds the good, the bad, and the ugly, "for every purpose under the earth," meaning everything has a purpose. Or let me put it this way: purpose can be birthed from any season. It's completely dependent on the lens you use to view that season.

I reflect a lot on my life, just to track things and understand where I am at every point in time. I might only have a glimpse, but in each season I choose to experience it fully, not by myself but with the Holy Spirit, because God knows I cannot do life without Him. This does not necessarily mean I am kabashing, I just lean into God and live out however He tells me to live out the season.

A recent example would be my niece and nephew relocating to meet their mom. I have spent the last 14 years living with them and the last 2 years considering them in everything that I do: shopping for them when I travel, even when I had just come out of a detention center (story for another day), trying to get home early so I could spend time with them before bedtime, school runs, 5am football practice, kids' parties, and the whole works.

They relocated two weeks ago, and I cried as I dropped them off at the airport. It felt like someone ripped out my heart. Not because I won't see them again, traveling is my favourite sport, but because my spirit, soul, and body knew that a season had just ended, one where our lives will no longer be intertwined like they used to. Gosh, I wept like a child, and even as I type this I feel the tears coming, but I digress.

I also knew I was coming into a new season where it's just me (seeing as my Boaz is getting finishing touches from Father God). It would never be the same, and that is what my heart mourned. It is also good for me to be alone in this season, to see what God is doing with me in it. I am glad I indulged my niece with her random hugs and greetings, because I would not get those days back. I am glad I was there for them in the best way that I could, and the truth is they carried me in those years more than I carried them, but who is going to tell them.

Sometimes it felt like a lot of responsibility, but I knew it was only for a season. Now I am here in this new season, free as a bird, and I am glad I did not hold back in my previous season with them.

The point of this is that no season lasts forever. Embrace, learn, and enjoy each one, you never get them back. So I am off to enjoy my plenty of free time before my Boaz comes to suffocate me with love, like Christ's love for the church.

Shalom!
